HOG MEMBER OF THE MONTH Lance Allen Lance Allen is currently the Director of our Endless Mountains HOG Chapter. Some of us know how much he enjoys eating ice cream…..most of us even know him as the “You know you’re a Harley person when” guy. But I think that all of us know him as a man who loves his family and his Harley! Lance is most content when he is behind the handlebars of his bike with his lovely wife Sherry on the back giving him that 100 mile hug! Sherry is the HOG Chapter’s Secretary...among many other things. Lance has been a HOG Member for 5 years and has been enjoying motorcycling for 40 years. Lance has owned 9 motorcycles. Three of those bikes were off-road dirt bikes that he race for 5 years. His current ride is a 2008 Street Glide with a very bad Black & Green custom paint set. Lance told me that he enjoys riding anytime he can be with Sherry or the whole HOG group. He just loves to ride. He also loves to eat (just like the rest of us)….so you can generally see him and Sherry on rides that find Ice Cream or a meal on the agenda! Lance can often be seen leading rides and has been a Road Captain on many rides for the Chapter. I have ridden behind Lance and Sherry many times on rides, and I have got to say that I have never seen anyone remove a helmet, while going down the road, slicker than Lance! It scares me a bit, but, it is beautifully orchestrated between the two of them. Lance really likes to feel the rush of the wind in his face and total freedom when he rides. Lance told me that the HOG Chapter is like the TV show “Cheers” to him. It is a place where everybody knows your name and you just want to be with them. He enjoys being able to “leave everything behind” when he is out on the open road. When they are not on the road, Lance and Sherry can often (almost always) be found at the Chapter Fundraisers and events, volunteering to do whatever needs to be done. Lance has helped our Chapter get back to the basics…...and ride. Who knows what kind of rides he will dream up. Stay tuned for some real fun riding this year. Lance and Sherry were high school sweethearts! They have been married for 35 years and have 2 children and 6 very special grandchildren. The first time that Lance and Sherry rode together was when they were dating. Lance described it this way…..”I pulled a wheelie and Sherry fell off! She got right back on and still wanted to ride some more. I said to myself…This is the girl for me! And the rest is History!” Lance didn’t own a bike while he and Sherry were raising their children. He told me “We could only dream about owning a Harley. So, when the kids grew up and quit asking for money…in 2005... we bought our first Harley! So, keep your eyes peeled for that Bad Black and Green Harley machine on the road. You know that you will always get a big smile and a wave from the Big Guy behind the handlebars!
